Helix Angle of milling cutters and helix Angle selection
Helix Angle: the greater the helix Angle of the end milling cutter and the longer the contact line between the workpiece and the blade, the smaller the load imposed on the blade per unit length, thus helping to prolong the tool life. But on the other hand, with the increase of helix Angle, the axial component of cutting resistance also increases, making the tool easy to fall off from the handle, so, when processing with a large helix Angle tool, it requires a good rigidity of the handle. The 0° helical Angle is called straight edge, and its contact line is the shortest.
The choice of spiral Angle: stainless steel is difficult to cut materials with low thermal conductivity, the impact on the tip of the tool, the use of large spiral Angle of the end milling cutter to prolong the tool life. High hardness materials with the increase of hardness, cutting resistance increases, should choose large spiral Angle end milling cutter. For thin plate machining workpiece with low rigidity, it is advisable to use small spiral Angle end milling cutter.
