Benefits of DLC coating

DLC coating (Diamond-Like Carbon) is an amorphous thin film material composed of carbon. It has both the high hardness of diamond and the lubricity of graphite. It is widely used in industry, automobile, medical, cutting tools and other fields. Its core advantages include:

1. Ultra-high hardness and wear resistance
High hardness (up to 2000-4000 HV), close to natural diamond, significantly reducing the wear of materials caused by friction or impact.

Extend component life: suitable for high wear environments (such as engine parts, molds, cutting tools, etc.), reducing replacement frequency.

2. Extremely low friction coefficient
Self-lubricating: The friction coefficient can be as low as 0.05-0.2 (similar to polytetrafluoroethylene), reducing energy loss and heat generation.

Energy saving and efficiency improvement: Used in mechanical moving parts (such as pistons and bearings) can improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption.

3. Excellent corrosion resistance
Strong chemical inertness, resistance to corrosive media such as acids, alkalis, and salts, suitable for harsh environments (such as marine equipment and chemical equipment).

4. Good biocompatibility
Non-toxic and compatible with human tissue, widely used in medical implants (such as artificial joints, surgical tools).

5. Anti-adhesion
Low surface energy, not easy to adhere to impurities (such as plastic mold anti-sticking, food processing equipment).

6. Thermal stability
It can still maintain performance at high temperatures (usually 300-500°C, depending on the doping elements), suitable for high temperature conditions.

7. Improve surface finish
The coating is dense and smooth, which can reduce the roughness of the contact surface and improve the sealing or optical performance (such as lens protective film).

Typical application scenarios
Automotive industry: piston rings, tappets, fuel injection systems.

Tools/molds: drill bits, stamping molds, injection molds.

Medical devices: scalpels, orthopedic implants.

Electronic equipment: hard disk protective layer, mobile phone shell anti-scratch.

Notes
High cost: It needs to be prepared by PVD/CVD process, but it can reduce maintenance costs in the long run.

Adhesion requirements: substrate pretreatment (such as ion cleaning) is required to ensure adhesion
