Application Of End Milling Cutter
1. Face milling
End mills can be used for face milling. However, because the main deflection angle is 90 °, the force on the tool is mainly radial force in addition to the main cutting force, which is easy to cause deflection and deformation of the tool bar, vibration and affect the machining efficiency. Therefore, in addition to the special reasons such as small axial force required for thin bottom workpieces or occasional reduction of tool inventory for face milling, End mills are not recommended for machining flat surfaces without steps.
2. Side wall milling
Most of the workpieces suitable for machining with end mills have one or more sidewalls perpendicular to the bottom surface (this surface is parallel to the spindle of the milling machine), which brings a problem that does not exist in face milling: sidewall shape and accuracy.
