What If The Milling Cutter Is Not Wear-resistant

brief introduction

Tungsten steel milling cutter is a tool made of tungsten steel (cemented carbide, also known as tungsten titanium alloy). Generally, it is mainly used for CNC machining center and CNC engraving machine.

It can also be installed on ordinary milling machine to process some hard and uncomplicated heat treatment materials. Tungsten steel milling cutter is widely used and high-speed machining is used. The hardness of tungsten steel milling cutter is Vickers 10K, second only to diamond. Because of this, tungsten steel milling cutter is not easy to be worn, and it is brittle and hard, not afraid of annealing.

Wear form

The basic law of milling cutter wear is similar to that of turning tool. The cutting thickness of high-speed tungsten steel milling cutter is small, especially in reverse milling, the cutter teeth squeeze and slide seriously on the workpiece surface, so the milling cutter wear mainly occurs on the back. When milling steel parts with tungsten steel face milling cutter, due to the high cutting speed and the large sliding speed of chips along the front, the back is worn. At the same time, there is also small milling cutter wear in the front.

Tungsten steel face milling cutter carries out high-speed intermittent cutting, so that the cutter teeth are subjected to repeated mechanical impact and thermal impact, resulting in cracks and fatigue damage of the cutter teeth. The higher the milling speed, the earlier and more serious the wear of this milling cutter. Most tungsten steel face milling cutters lose cutting ability due to fatigue damage. If the geometric angle of the milling cutter is unreasonable or improperly used, and the strength of the cutter teeth is poor, the cutter teeth will be worn without cracks after bearing a great impact force.

Preventive measures

(l) Reasonably select the brand of milling cutter blade: the blade material with high toughness, low thermal crack resistance sensitivity, good heat resistance and wear resistance shall be adopted. For example, when milling steel, ys30, YS25 and other brands of blades can be used; When milling cast iron, yd15 and other brand blades can be selected to prevent milling cutter wear.

(2) Reasonable selection of milling quantity: under certain processing conditions, there is a safe working area without damage,. Selecting VC and ƒ Z in the safe working area can ensure the normal operation of the milling cutter and prevent the wear of the milling cutter.

(3) Reasonable selection of the relative position between the workpiece and the milling cutter: reasonable selection of the installation position of the face milling cutter plays an important role in reducing the wear of the face milling cutter.
